Q: Does the external metal get hot to the touch?

Not at all, not even if the contents are very hot indeed. Great mug which keeps contents hot for ages.

Q: Is the plastic BPA free?

Yes I believe so. I think it states this in the product information

Q: Is the flask leak-proof? Could you carry it in a bag for example?

No unfortunately the new model is not leakproof. Ordered one recently as a gift which leaked and two subsequent replacements also leaked. Gave up in the end and ordered a Contigo Snapseal. The new ones don’t seal and leak from the lid as the position where the silicone seal sits has changed and no longer seals properly, even though tightly closed. I’ve got three older models and they are leakproof. Shame Bodum changed the design of the lid.
